I have XP SP1a on a laptop. Wireless Zero Configuration [WZC] only allows for WEP encryption.

MS have an upgrade patch for WPA [815485] that is designed for SP1/SP1a.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=009D8425-CE2B-47A4-ABEC-274845DC9E91&displaylang=en

I also ran across a post that advocated also installing the following patch [826942] Wireless update rollup package for Windows XP (in addition to 815485).

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/826942/

Working on the premise that more is sometimes less [and generally better] with MS, can anyone advise as to whether I need both patches or just the 815485.

Any info much appreciated.

Cheers

Is there some reason that you aren't going to service pack 2 or even 3? I don't remember messing with those with the higher number service packs. Plus, you will get better security and improved performance.

Apologies for overlooking this post.

In case this is of use to others. I circumvented the problem by purchasing a wireless card with software driver that included a WPA supplicant so no need for any messing about with Windows.

Running Windows XP with anything less than SP2 is so dangerous as to beyond comprehension.

Please for the sake of the rest of us, upgrade to SP2. It doesn't matter what wireless security you use. With SP1 your whole network is unprotected.

Many thanks for your added reply classicsoftware. I will download SP2 and apply it.
