HP compaq nw8000
System: Microsoft Window XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2
Manufactured and supported by: HP
Intel(R) Pentium(R) M
processor 1.80GHz
1.79GHz, 512MB of RAM
The case with my notebook is that the 1/3 of the monitor is not working. I've sent it for service but it turned out that it's not worthing repairing. So, i was wondering if there are any adjustments i could do to change screen size and centering so that it fits in the still-working part of the monitor. Thanks in advance

No way that I am aware of.
If you really need this system working hook a regular monitor up to it. It won't be portable that way but at least it will work.
I've heard of some people who would replace the screen. I would not suggest this route unless you are sure of what you are doing. how did it get so damaged in the first place?
Are you still covered by manufacturer warranty, or is it under a store warranty somewhere, or out of warrenty?

Well I've tried plugging it into a regular monitor but it's just not a laptop anymore.
Are you sure there aren't any adjustments that can be made, like these in a regular monitor, to resolve my problem?
No, unfortunately it's not warranted anymore. It seems there is a hardware malfunction. It's a shame you know, cause it cost me 2.5 grand :(

I am sorry, there is no way I know of to push the screen over so that it is on the working part of the monitor. :(
You can adjust the screen on old CRT monitors but not on LCD screens. Even on the CRTs I don't think the adjustments would go far enough to compensate for 1/3 of the screen not working. Perhaps they would, but everything would be distorted I would think.

This is what my screen currently looks like:

what do you want to use said laptop for anyways? if it's nothing complex, you might want to consider getting a cheap laptop to suffice for a while. a site I found had laptop screens for HP compaqs priced about 200 to 400 dollars, but I didn't see your model listed clearly.

I agree that it's not worth fixing. The money you would spend on the screen would be much better spent on a new laptop. What you paid $2500 for back then can easily be replaced by a much better system for $500 or less these days. If you are up to it you can try opening it up and reseating the video cable, but I wouldn't hold out much hope that it will help.
