I was having some issues with an old motherboard (capacitors exploded) so I replaced it with a dell dimension 4600 motherboard with the old processor and ram. It was all compatible apart from the fan. The heatsink accepted a 70mm fan (just my luck), this is not a standard size fan. What's more is that dell motherboards have a branded fan connector (grr) and it seems that they only produce 60mm fans.
I was considering buying a whole new heatsink and fan made by dell... Or a dell fan adapter (from US on ebay).
On my mission to totally turn this PC around I switched on at least 3 case fans while there was only a heatsink guarding the processor.
It was today that I recased the PC. Everything works fine but still I do not know what to do about the fan issue. I put all the case fans into its new home - temporarily. As soon as I switched it on I felt the heatsink and it was over 60 elcius already. In the old case it was not like this at all.
I am now in desperate need of a solution for the fan before the processor goes.
It's a socket 478, Intel Pentium 4 2GHz...
If you could point me towards links for purchase I would be greatful.
Thank you...
P.S. The case is significantly narrower than my last one although I do not think this is what's causing the rise in heat.
Also I'm starting to get random crashes
