I'm trying to help a neighbor get back to IE6 after inadvertently allowing update to download IE8. I've uninstalled IE8 with Add/Remove Programs but was surprised to end up with IE7 since she did not remember ever installing it and, obviously, did not recognize it as the browser she was used to using.
I've done a lot of rollbacks from 7 to 6 for unhappy campers but wonder if that is still possible after 8 has been installed. I'd rather not just try it and end up with a mess.
(SP3 was installed well before IE8.)
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

If you experience any probs going from 7 to 6, you can download IE7 directly from MS here (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/ie7/)

Going to IE6 is just about the most dangerous thing you can do. If you are friend, you won't do it. IE6 is totally insecure and should not be used by anyone who does not want to get infected. Try FireFox or Chrome or Opera, but stay away from IE. Of all versions six is the least safe.

Using the latest MS updates is certainly recommended if security has any importance at all. But, that said, the best way to make changes and know you can get back to where you started from is to make image files before you start. This will get you back in time where system restore may well fail.
If you need further help or don't understand about imaging post back.

Sorry for the delay. Seems to be my week for sick PCs. Now my daughter-in-law's very old Compaq 5000 desktop is in real trouble; but that's another subject.
As it turns out the neighbor got used to IE7 while I was unavailable and wants to keep it. Fortunately a thorough clean up (she had less than 10% free space since no temp files, temporary internet files, deleted emails and the recycle bin had ever been cleared) and a Malwarebytes scan and repair got her back in business.
Thanks for the replies.
