I downloaded the Windows 7 upgrade advisor just for the heck of it to see how bad IT SAYS I am with my current configuration and one question I have is, in addition to updating some drivers and telling me that my audio card is not compatible it also says my current graphics card will not run the Windows aero ???? whatever that might be. My question is this, as mine is a agp card is Windows 7 more pci-e oriented thus it wont work or is it a driver or memory thing. My card is a gigabyte radeon 9200 with 128mb. I also know this download advisor is a beta so I am not going to think to much of it at this point and no rush to get W7. I still like XP and it works so well. Never did get Vista.

Your card is many generations old...a DX7 or 8 card...it doesn't have the physical capabilities of being able to run DX 10.

Aero is a DX 10 app...it is also all the fancy graphics of Vista and W7. The AGP/PCIe doesn't really play a part in this as there are some (not very many at all) AGP DX10 cards.

Thanks for the response. Sounds like the purchase of another graphics card would take care of it, when I get to that point. I guess the same would apply to the audi card as well.

Yep...new video card.

You'll need to stick to an ATI card, because the few AGP DX 10 cards around are ATI.

I like ATI, and have been looking on Newegg for possibilities and your right no Nvidia entries at this point that I found. Trying to figure out which of these new cards would be compatible with XP as well if any.

Careful about slapping in a new video card without making sure your current power supply can handle it first. Current low end cards are not power hungry for todays standards but still require more than your 9200.

When it's time come back with your system specs so we can advise on your options. No doubt many will just say it's time to upgrade, which it may be, but if that is not your intention or you don't have the ability to do so then make that clear and we can help you sort out your options.
