View Full Version : Going Diskless
Ok, so I'm taking all my disks and converting them to ISOs (at least those that run with out the original disk) for personal use. I've found a couple of programs that work, what I'm having trouble with is this error I am getting on a couple and google isn't telling me what error it is...
recording has failed. code: 00000017
In one program and in another program it just runs. any idea what it means?
I just attempted to do a bunch more disks, with the same error

What disks? If running games without disks is what you want you don't need to go through the trouble and disk space of making an ISO of them. Go to GameCopyWorld and download the no-CD/DVD fixed exe for your game, replaced the original exe and you are good to go. Always make backups of the exe you are replacing just in case it doesn't work correctly. It will save you from the need to reinstall.
The site is a bit sleazy with all the virtual girl ads, but the files are legal and do work. The files will not let you play a game you don't have the original disk for.
what I want is to do is to have all the CDs I need with out bringing the actual disks. Some are utilities like Office 2007 and others are games. Some I know I need the disks for, like my star wars games, but there are others that I can use that don't, like my PS1 games with an emulator.
I am wondering what the error is that I'm getting, it's with ISO recorder V3 from Alex Fienman.
So, is there any ideas as to why I am getting the error?

Not finding much on this error on the net. Usually when trying to burn disks it comes down to three things; dirty or bad source disk, bad blank media, or bad burner.
Other possibilities are memory errors, buggy program, or even hard drive errors where the temp files are being stored.

Are you using the correct version of ISO Recorder for your version of Windows?
I'm using the version for Vista in Windows 7... There isn't exactly a windows 7 version out at the moment, but I am using 64 because I'm in 64... I've switched to Magic ISO maker, but it won't touch my large disks.

I've used ImgBurn with 7 and it works fine.
I have it downloaded, and I'm waiting for a rip to get done. I think Ajmukon will have less of a problem with my desk this semester as I won't have as many CDs floating around on my desk... (he is extremely neat, and I believe in organized chaos, so it's going to be interesting with him as a room mate...
So, My game disks for PC are not copying. I'm not able to get Age of Empires 2, or Red alert 2 or Halo (I got halo 2 for some reason...) any idea what's going on?

You can't burn/rip most games disks straight up. You have to use a program like Alcohol 120 or similar.
