View Full Version : Video Card identification
question1

Hey, can anyone tell me how to identify a video just by looking at it?? I need to figure out a model on the video card I have so that I can download the drivers for it. It has S3 chips on it but it appears to be an AOpen Card.
I have many of these old cards around and if I could get some of them to work it would be great.
Appreciate it,
Troy

Howdy,
Most of the time, it's very difficult to tell what model, or even what kind sometimes, of card it is, no matter what you're looking at.
I use SiSoft Sandra 2001 Standard Edition. It's free for home users and will tell you everything you want to know about the hardware in your system, oftentimes even information that is not readily apparent.
I can't remember the URL for it, but just do a search on say, 'Sandra 2001 Standard', and you should receive a few dozen hits of sites that you can either review/download or just download. This is the fastest way I know for you to find out the specs on your vid card.
Cheers,

hiya ^_^
on most hardware you would find the following: name and model of chip, make and model, serial number and FCC-ID.
If you go to www.windrivers.com (http://www.windrivers.com) theres a page where you can search for details of the desired piece of hardware, for instance, the FCCID page will tell you what it is, who makes it and if available, the webaddress of the manufacturer.
Eventually you could search for the S3 website and search for any topics related to the chip number / model on your VGA.

You could try this page http://www.bootdisk.com Go to Diagnostics; then to CTPCI which is a very small program to download to a floppy.
