Asus lcd monitor Hdmi to dvi no audio

I just bought a DVI to HDMI cable for my asus monitor and I have no sound, I've tried all types of guides to no avail. my sound works as i've tested it with one of those cables that can be used for mp3 to speakers, don't know the technical term but any way with my hdmi produces no sound. The speaker levels are acting like it's producing sound ( the green bar in vista ) but no sound. My SPD/F cable is connected form my video card to my board and I have the latest drivers for realtek. I've gone thru every possibility and can't find the solution :mad:

DVI is strictly video, there's no sound involved with it, so if you want to get sound, you will need to use a seperate cable to do so. I'm not quite sure what kind of jack your speakers use.
