Hello All,

I have a Dell Inspiron 5100 Laptop with XP Home.
It’s in a terrible state with malware. There are a lot of popups.
I have scanned with a quantity of anti malware apps but no success.
If you do a Google search the page is hijacked by “Windowsclick”.

I’m trying to avoid performing a complete “wipe”.

If I download any anti-malware app and try to install it, a popup says ‘whatever.exe’ is infected and cannot be installed. Therefore I’m stuck not being able to do any cleanup.
I even renamed the exe files and the same thing happens. I have run out of resources and any assistance in helping me correct this awful situation would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Karlev

Please Run the ESET Online Scanner (http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/) and post the ScanLog with your post for assistance.
You will need to use Internet Explorer to complete this scan.
You will need to temporarily Disable your current Anti-virus program.
Be sure the option to Remove found threats is Un-checked at this time (we may have it clean what it finds at a later time), and the option to Scan unwanted applications is Checked.
When you have completed that scan, a scanlog ought to have been created and located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt. Please post that log for us as directed below.

NOTE: If you are unable to complete the ESET scan, please try another from the list below:

• Kaspersky Online Scanner (http://www.kaspersky.com/kos/eng/partner/default/kavwebscan.html) • Panda Active Scan (http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm) • Trend Micro HouseCall (http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp) • F-Secure Online Virus Scanner (http://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/ols.shtml)

Hello Crunchie,

The desktop is all covered with a red warning sign.
I see mentioned "System Security v4.52, logo is a black and yellow striped shield".
I am totally unable to do anything. Unable to go on the internet, open any files, apps etc.
Unable to open browser. Tried safe mode....... zero!!
I'm trying very hard not to reformat. Any other suggestions?
Please advise as soon as possible.

Thanks,

Kind regards,

karlev

Are you able to connect that hard drive to another computer and then run MBA-M and hijackthis? If so, I would give it a go.

Hi Crunchie,
I was out of town and just got back so I have not done anything on the laptop yet.
As soon as I get settled I'll tackle that 'sick laptop'.

regards,
karlev.
