My son's computer display (when gaming) went suddenly off color and remains that way from booting forward. Eliminated suspect components by testing:
1. Graphics Card - Ok (Even native connection off color)
2. Mother Board - Replaced
3. Memory - Replaced
4. Monitor - ok
5. Ran System Restore (Vista) back several days

Only components left to replace are Hard Drive, CPU and the Power Supply. Could either of these cause the symptoms? Any advise or diagnostics tips? Thanks!

It sounds like a bad monitor... Is it a freestanding monitor?? You said you checked it, how did you do that... If you haven't already done so, hook it up to another computer and see if it works okay... If it is still bad, it is a bad monitor... If it is good, then the next most likely problem is the drivers... Did you remove the old driver??

Also, how did you check the graphics card?? If it works on another computer, but not on this one, the graphics card would be a major suspect...

It is very unlikely that it would be the power supply, CPU or hard drive...

If it isn't the monitor, it could be malware...

I did test box on a different monitor with same results. My reason for eliminating the graphic card is that I removed card and used on-board display connection of the new mother board with same bad results.

Remove the graphics drivers and let them reinstall... See if that makes a difference...

I am assuming you also tried simply adjusting the monitor controls?? Reset to defaults??

Found the culprit. It was the display cable from the box to the monitor. We found that when the cable was stretched out the monitor would work fine. When it was curled up behind the desk, the display was off color. We had used the same cable when testing a second monitor so the reason for eliminating the monitor as a problem.

That is an interesting twist, pun intended... :D

Thanks for posting back about that...
