View Full Version : Services and Controller app being closed

Ah, the joys of viruses/trojans/worms! I've been reading through the various posts concerning this problem and have tried everything suggested to all past posters and alas, that darn message is still there! It's the same-ole same-ole, I get the "To help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program. Name: Services and Controller app" message followed by the one minute countdown to reboot. Long story short: HELP!! :)
NOTE: The posted HJT log is in Safe mode, I have one in normal as well if the other is needed just let me know. I don't want to be clogging my thread already. Thanks in advance!

Go ahead and post the log from normal mode. The HJT gurus will want to see that one most of all. However many posts it takes, no problem.

Exactly what did you do? If you ran a scan, what where the results. Please post any logs. I can't advise you what to do unless I already know what you tried?????????

I've scanned my computer with my virus protection a few times and the scans came back clean and have used both Symantec's Blaster worm tool and Sasser worm tool - both came back clean. Usually I'm good to go when it comes to this stuff, but I'm at a loss here.

First:
How to run a scan with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here (http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe) or Here (http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Anti-Malware_d5756.html)
Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Note)
The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.
Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process.
If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.[/QUOTE]
Second:
Now run Combofix...follow the instructions, exactly.
Please do the following:
Download this file - combofix.exe (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe) to your Desktop (it needs to be run from the Desktop). Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a log for you.
Note:
Do not mouseclick Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause the program to stall...
Third:
IN THE ORDER LISTED BELOW
Re-boot the system
Post the Combofix Log
Post the MBAM log
Post a new HJT log
Tell us how the system is running.

The logs look clean to me. Combofix did remove one object though.
How is the pc?
Please Run the ESET Online Scanner (http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/) and post the ScanLog with your post for assistance.
You will need to use Internet Explorer to complete this scan.
You will need to temporarily Disable your current Anti-virus program.
Be sure the option to Remove found threats is Un-checked at this time (we may have it clean what it finds at a later time), and the option to Scan unwanted applications is Checked.
When you have completed that scan, a scanlog ought to have been created and located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt. Please post that log for us as directed below.
NOTE: If you are unable to complete the ESET scan, please try another from the list below:
• Kaspersky Online Scanner (http://www.kaspersky.com/kos/eng/partner/default/kavwebscan.html) • Panda Active Scan (http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm) • Trend Micro HouseCall (http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp) • F-Secure Online Virus Scanner (http://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/ols.shtml)

Is this a laptop? Are you using McAfee Wireless services?

This is a desktop, not a laptop. I am not using McAfee Wireless services. After ridding the problem from my computer I attempted to install a driver for my printer from the HP website and the virus attacked again, at least I figured out the root! Now to clean the PC again. Thanks for all your help :)
