Hi all.
I used to use Volume Logic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volume_Logic), but it looks like they are not developing it anymore.

What I need, is some software which can run in the background, and continuously work on the sound in real-time as a software limiter/compressor.

Perhaps there are other alternatives out there by now?
I know all about hardware comressor/limiters, but I want a software solution, so that it is all in the one computer, without my having to couple in another bit of hardware. I fully understand that most software packages are not going to be as good as a pure hardware compressor/limiter, but I just want the options.

If I follow what you want to do, if you are running either Linux of Mac, you can download Ardour (http://ardour.org/) get a compressor/limiter plugin for it, and run the sound into Ardour and out. (In theory, I haven't played around with it as much as I would like, and I don't have as good of a grasp of the "Jack" capabilities that it has.
