This probably goes to Paul...

I downloaded BootitNG and started looking at it...I guess I'm too used to OS-level based backup apps.

I created the boot disk/CD a couple of ways...one "Normal" and the other "Partition Work". In neither case does "Boot Edit" or "Image Sets" appear on the main maintenance window.

I want to trial run a back up (image). It appears that, in the program, "Backup" only applies to the EMBR. I assumed, even after reading the PDF, that "Image Sets" would be for imaging a drive/partition. Since Image Sets is not available, that's out.

Looking a bit closer it seems one can image a partition in "Partition Work". Is this correct and would that be the way to go about imaging all partitions, including apps and data, on a drive. If so how to restore the partition image? That's not immediately clear to me...at least yet. Or is the partition image only the configuration information for that partition?

Thanks

Image sets is not available until you register. Image sets is for backing up the entire hard drive one partition after another. Could be quite large depending on your system. Personally I make single partition images.

Boot edit is for when you install to hard drive and use BiNG as a boot a manager.

To make an image of a single partition go into partition work> click on the partition you want to image> click "image"> choose create> and you will now see "paste pending for image create" at the bottom of the window. Click on the either the partition you want to store the image on and navigate to where you want to store the image then choose file name, done. Or click on the CD/DVD drive you want if you want to burn to disk/s.

Restore works pretty much the same. Click on the partition or DVD drive you have the image on> choose restore> click on the partition you want to restore to, navigate to the folder you have the image on if on a hard drive and choose the image to restore, and it will start restoring. Or choose the DVD drive that has the burned image on it already inserted into the drive.

Post back if you have any more questions or need further clarification.
