Hi all.
:)

I recently recorded all 24 hours of our national Telethon here in New Zealand, as MPEG1 avi video files.

The first file is 16 hours long, and 82GB in size.
The second file is 7.5 hours long and 41GB in size.

While I can play them OK in ZoomPlayer and Windows Media Player in their native format, trying to compress them into DivX or other file poses problems, as most ripping software falls over and dies when you try to open an 82GB video file!!! :D :D :D

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to deal with this?
Perhaps a video-file splitter, which would allow me to split it up into more managable chunks?

...i have already saved the whole thing uncompressed to a spare 160GB external HDD...

I don't think any of the video tools I have will do what you want. Everything seems to grab the whole file at once. Just for laughs what happens if you try to open with Windows Movie Maker?
