Hi guys,

I was looking for a good tool to monitor the temperature of the components of my system, namely my hard drive(s), GPU and CPU and scope the result over a period of time. A friend recommended Argus Monitor. It seems to be a great tool, especially because it also can warn you if the HDD is about to suffer a hardware failure.

Before installing, I wanted to know what you guys think of ArgusMonitor or if you know a better tool?

I recommend SIW, it is free and shows you more.

Thanks for the fast reply. I downloaded and tried SIW, but for the same purpose I have Everest. What I am looking for is a tool which can

a) Monitor the temperature over a longer period of time and show a GRAPH of the temperatures over time (e.g. to see what where the temps when I was playing a game) and
b) run in the background and issue a warning when critical S.M.A.R.T. values decrease or reach their specified threshold.

This is what ArgusMonitor was designed for and it seems to be great (you should have a look), but I want to know if someone knows something better.

Sorry for being a bit imprecise with my first inquiry. ;)

Speedfan will monitor CPU, GPU, HDD and fan speeds but in tabular form, although newer versions may be graphical.

http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php

My Asus mobo came with a utility that does something similar. But it was made by Asus and as such, I guess that it is probably mobo / chipset specific.

Otherwise to monitor GPU activity [eg GPU temp, clock speeds, GPU fan step activity, etc], I think that the vast majority of gamers would not hesitate in recommending RivaTuner. RT is simply in a league of its own.

Good Luck

Hello again,

thanks, but Speedfan ist just plain ugly! I downloaded and tested the Argus Monitor for some time now and I must say that I really like it. Especially as they now released a new version with support for USB external drive enclosures.

Therefore, I can highly recommend ArgusMonitor: http://www.argusmonitor.com (http://www.argusmonitor.com)

They have a fully functional 30 day trial version for download, so no need to purchase it right away. ;)

Regards, and happy monitoring!

It is not graphical but if you leave HWMonitor (http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php) open while playing it does keep a current/min/max history of temps, fans, HDD's, and voltages.

I often use it myself for what you want. Best of all it is free. :)

If you want to see recent CPU usage history simply leave open task manager. Or if you are running vista or 7 there is the 'reliability and performance monitor' that you can configure in different ways to see various stats.

So, what are the chances that the Argus software development folks have their IP registered in Muenchen, Germany and the IP that NQA is posting from is also in Germany???

Any possible monetary agenda by hyping their product involved here??

@Whyzman: Cool, you are correct. They even have their company headquarter in the same part of town where I live. But that's not surprising though, Munich is the center of German IT industry. Maybe a bit of subconscious local patriotism. ;)
