My HP PC crashed and so I rebuilt it to better than ever spec.. As a recent graduate from a certain community college here in Canada, Microsoft has allowed me use of Windows 7 Pro (full edition). I am running it now. It has much the look and feel of Vista, as you can see in the beta version. I ran the beta for a wile but the full version clearly stands above it. Most of the improvements over Vista have been in the background. The memory management is quite good. A gigabyte would be sufficient but I am running with 2. I have been running this OS for a little more than a week now and it has not crashed yet.

Microsoft also quietly released RTM Windows 7 to members of some of their technical sites, such as MSTechnet before the official release to the public.
This is much smarter for getting positive experiences than the "it's a secret" screwed up release of Vista.

RTM is Rotations per Minute? Rotterdam Airport? Remember The Milk? I would assume that it is some sort of OEM version.

What do you mean by "the "it's a secret" screwed up release of Vista"?

RTM means "Released To Manufacturing" for the OS, the version you will see on PCs this fall and being put in the boxed DVDs sets to sell in stores.

Microsoft kept changing details of the overdue Vista OS until the last minute and kept third party developers in the dark, so when the Vista OS was finally released there was very little third party support for it. So Vista early users were chomping at the bit to try it and were disappointed.

I see what you mean. When I rebuilt my computer I went to some manufacturer web sites to find a few drivers. I don't remember which it was exactly...I think that it was ATI that already had drivers labeled for Windows 7.

I crashed mine the first day on 2 gigs. Then again, I was trying to.

Anyone interested in a free copy of Win7 or other M$ programs (and a student) should ask if your university/college is licensed under the MSDN Academic Alliance. All eligible students (and its usually up to the local department to choose who is eligible) are allowed access to software (usually free, sometimes at a signifigantly reduced price). All you need then is a .edu email (which your school should have provided) and you're set up to get Microsoft's version of Linux distributing...which still sux :p

Just kidding on that last. If you "need" Microsoft programs for school, your school should be offering this.

I am going to follow up on that... I hopefully can get my hands on 2 to 4 cheap versions of W7... I have 2 comps that I am concerned about, but my sister might want a copy and my dad too...
