View Full Version : Yahoo + Firefox = a bad match?

Lately Firefox locks up on me, far too often, when accessing my Yahoo email, which I do often. It's the newer Yahoo ads, I think, that seem a bit more memory intensive than they used to be.

This happens on my home computer AND on my work computer (I should mention both are behind the times a bit in regards to RAM but do ok otherwise).

On I.E., something I hadn't used in ages, I don't have a problem.

I think today I give up on Firefox, something I championed and recommended to others, until I have better luck with the Yahoo pages. So many lockups is just too frustrating.

I was wondering if others have had any problems with this or with the newer versions of Firefox in general? I should note I run the more recent version, and always update when prompted.

I would say I'm just having bad luck, but on two computers in two different buildings?

Symptoms are usually due to extensions, but we need to know what version you were running.

I don't have a problem on Yahoo, but then I usually use AdBlock to block all the Yahoo ads, manually.

Firefox 3.5.2 running with NoScript, I have no problem with accessing Yahoo mail. However, lately, the last two months or so, Yahoo has been annoying with sneaking pop-ups through when clicking on main links--mainly Sports. If it isn't a pop-up, it opens a new tab to an advertisement. DrudgeReport used to be the worst that way, now Yahoo is.

Firefox almost never locks up. It did once in a while due to the age old memory leak, but 3.5 has indeed improved on that issue. Of course, I'm also now running a quad core with 6 Gb of RAM, so there's plenty there.

Running Firefox 3.0 wth NoScripts I cannot login to my Yahoo Groups. My username and/or password is always rejected but switching to IE7 allows login. This is an irritation but I have now learned to use IE if I am going to visit a Group.

PopPop,
Firefox v3.5.2 update also automatically disables Microsoft's One-Click "extension" (installed without asking) with the latest .NET SP1 Microsoft Update.
No big deal except Microsoft did not write the "extension" with a working Uninstall button for XP users, and the One Click idea is to allow software to be loaded automatically--just like MS' Active-X. No reports of exploits but it does cause a possible security hole to be opened.

Windows 7 users are reporting the extension uninstall button does work for Firefox in that OS.

Nedah,
I have learned I must use IE for some sites simply because of the way the site software is written.

For instance my wife and I own a major brand refrigerator that may have a bad relay that caused a safety recall (could cause the compressor to overheat and caused 78 fires), the recall site software was written in such a way that the service appointment could not be made using Firefox, even though it did show as on the recall list in Firefox.
