I have noticed when I run MS Config that there are duplicate entries in the start up meneu. How can I delete one of those entries?

I realize the double entry is not hurting anything but it bothers me not knowing why the double entry and not knowing how to remove them.

Thanks

Joe

Assuming you are running Win98, you can just take the check out of the box left of the program. I have taken just about everything out of my start-up except two or three things. The less things you have in your start-up, the faster your computer will be able to boot up. As to why there are double entrees….I have no clue, but mine also had double entrees.

hi

some things do not want to be 'deleted'(and shoudn't be http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif) from start up menu...I have found that on my system..

my start up list:

1) taskbar display controls (allows quick access to diplay properties)

2) ScanRgistry- (shouldn't need to explain this one) http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

3) print tray- (loads printer drivers)

4) Load PowerProfile (keeps coming back if deleted)

5) Country Select ("" same thing^ " )

6) PTSNOOP (same ).. have deleted this 100x from start up, ini and entire system.. keeps comin back http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

7) Ensinique Mixer- controls sound card sound( needs to be there .. will come back if deleted.)

8) any anti-virus control ( should stay obviously.)

You will read from 'experts' that all u need is system tray and explorer. This was fine on older machines not anymore.

You DO WANT TO LEAVE THE "Load power profile" lines in twice...otherwise, many lines can be removed and it does speed boot up.

Basically what the rest of them said is true but the one thing to remember is if it isn't something that you use all the time then it can probably go. Usually though alot of the things listed there seem too cryptic to know what they do, so follow the address shown next to the title and see where it goes. Like Sea69 some things need to be on and every system is different (Print Tray: some printers use that others don't). On my machine I've even added a copule of things on purpose with minimal effect (95% free system resources at boot-up 9 programs running at atart). Also sometimes certain items can be configured in different ways to not start at boot-up in the program itself so look at the tools or options choices in the program and diable it there instead of msconfig.

To clear up one thing sea posted, the advice to leave systray and explorer usually refers to the Task Manager, which is what opens when you use [Ctrl] [Alt] [Del] not in msconfig. They must be running, the win95/98 computer will run with only those two things showing in Task Manager.

In msconfig, Task Manager and System Tray must be left running also. The other things sea posted, Scan Registry and Load Power Profile, are correct, and definitely good to keep, others depend on your system's configurations.

Also mjc has a very good point, some things are better turned off by their menu options, within the programs, or by removing them from the Start Up folder.
