Hi. I was wondering if there is a way I can view my friends desktop. We live in separate states, but I want to be able to view his desktop, but don't want control over his computer. Almost as if there was a webcam pointed at his screen. Also, if he has dual monitors, is there any way u can specify what desktop you want a view of?

Thanks

OR, would a 2 mega pixel webcam, pointed directly at the screen be sufficient? I don't need it to be as clear as being able to read text on the screen, just view images.

I think there is a version of VNC that allows just that. I am not sure which one, but you could just not touch anything while connected, he still will have full control. what do you want to do?

You could try TeamViewer (http://www.teamviewer.com/index.aspx) or LogMeIn (https://secure.logmein.com/) - they are both basically for remote control but of course control doesn't have to be granted or taken.

thanks paul

i just emailed team viewer and they responded saying that they support that feature and call it a "presentation" where i have view of his desktop but not control over it which is exactly what i want.

I hope it does what you want. I have found it really really useful for remote desktop management.
