hi,
i was wondering if anyone could help me out with a problem i am having with passwords. after a clean install, windows remembers my passwords for sites real good. then 1 day, i will go to a site, and it won't remember nothing. what i mean is, it will not ask me if i won't it to remember my password. then i logged on to a site 1 day, and when i hit the first letter like i am supposed to do, my password was there, but about 15 different times across the box. i want to know, how i can get this thing to remember everything. is there a certain amount of space allocated for it or something? i would just like to go into it, and get it all fixed, and also, i want to get it to ask me when i need it to. thanks for all the you can give in advance. Um.......i am a bit confused here... are you speaking of passwords needed to access certain WEB SITES you go to or password(s) needed to log on to Windows ?? I have no passwords for Windows log on ...I like to keep things REAL simple....post a bit more info about what the passwords relate to and I'm sure someone can help. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

yes, certain web sites. you know how when you register at a site, once you type your user name and password, windows ask if you want it to remember these. then the next time you access the site, all you have to do is type 1 letter and the rest is taken care of. but for some reason, after a period of time, or to many passwords, it will not ask me if i want it to remember it. thanks.

Sounds like a cookie problem to me. Have you recently cleaned out your cookies?
Another possibility is that when cookies are saved, older cookies are deleted somehow. That's my guess, but maybe some other people will have a more definitive answer for you.

Big Blue 66yes, as a matter of fact i have. i did not think that would effect a new site were i had not yet settled. but i believe you are probably right. so in order to fix this problem, i will need to go back and relog to get the cookies back? but it will not ask me if i want windows to remember this anymore. i will try it and see what happens. thanks so much for the help. thanks for the reply. but could you tell me why that windows does not ask me if i want it to remember. for instance, i found a new site today and registered with the site. on my first log in, windows did not ask me if i wanted it to remember like it used to. i hope i am not confusing you guys. i am having a problem for words on how to describe what it is doing. (or shall i say what it is not doing.) thanks for the help.

hehe sorry Tad214.. I got ya now..it was either the way u 'worded it' or how I read it..lol
u r talking about a feature called Auto-Complete.
in ur web (IE) browser @ the top click-Tools, Internet Options, Advanced.
then scroll down to where it says " Auto-Complete" place a checkmark in there ( for both of them ) http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
pretty sure this is what u were talking about.

That should probably do it, but watch out using it. If you later have trouble with the text taking ages to show up in the password fields you do have to type, or for instance the field where you type your message here, then you'll need to turn autocomplete back off, that's what makes the fields hang or slow down.
When I had that problem, it would take up to 3 minutes for text I typed to show up in the user name or password box, and would sometimes lock up the computer, and I'd have to reboot to use IE again. Turning Autocomplete off was the fix suggested when I looked it up in the MS Knowledge DB, and it worked.
