Yes Im helping someone build a computer and I was wondering how can I copy my friends hard drive to my hard drive. Im doing this so I can do a clean install on his hard drive. Actually I want to save some of his files to my hard drive and then put them back on his hard drive with I clean install it. I wanted to hook his hard drive to my computer. Can I save files from his hard drive to mine when I hook it to my computer? Or is there a easier way? If not how do I go about doing this? Thanks

yes, you can xcopy BUT it will negate your "clean install" because you'll be putting all that stuff back on, it kinda defeats the purpose. The best way would probably backup the programs and files he "cant live without" or cannot replace to floppy or CD and then put them back on after the FDisk/Format procedure. If he has viruses or if the machine is not working properly due to bad files or what-not, you may have the same problems when you put all that stuff back on. Plus you may not have all the necessary .dll files once you put it back on. Xcopy is a good thing when you use to it set up 10 of the exact same hard drives with the same operating system. Why are you dumping the system to begin with? If it has problems that are software related or virus related, I've always been real "iffy" about salvaging anything from it for fear of running into it again shortly there after. Reoccuring problems three weeks down the road after a clean install BITE!! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/mad.gif Hope this helps, I just want you think of the pros and cons before you put a buncha garbage on a fresh install. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif
