I'm having a problem when trying to save jpeg files. I hope one of the crew can set me straight. It's pretty much a case of a beginner getting himself into trouble. I'm using win.98se. I was saving a series of jpeg files to a floppy for my daughter when I got alittle bored so I tried saving the files different ways. All was fun until I noticed that the files were being saved as .art files instead of jpeg. Next I found I have no program that opens .art files. No matter what I try I can't get the "save as type" box, in the "save picture" window to say jpeg. It did when I started all this. Now I have a choise of .art or bitmap. How can I get back to saving the files as jpeg?
Thanks

Although I cant say this is the ONLY thing to try......go to the floppy disk that has the files on it and highlight one of the files that is now named .art ........right click it and RENAME it to whatever.jpg ....then try to open it.

Wow. Thanks Randy. It works, pretty much. It doesn't change the file type in the save picture window but it does allow me to open each indivigual file. A step in the right direction. Any idea how to change the "save as type" box in the "save picture" window? I changed it to start, you'd think I could change it back.

File on it's way. There's not much info on the "save picture" window or on how to change the "save as type" box, that I can find. I've been looking thru one of those 800 page Windows books trying to figure this out. My brain is numb.

Have you checked the file types for the picture program, somewhere in it's Options or Preferences menus? I'm wondering if in your tinkering you might have disabled file association within the program for the jpg file type, so it no longer knows it can open that type of file. Or save it as one...

Thanks Pete, I'll look around and see if I can figure that out. I might have done that. What I did to compensate for all this is... I finally figured out how to get the "open with" window and set it up so that I.E. opens the .art files. Cool. My daughter will probably have to do that on her comp. too. I would still like to change the "save as type" box back to jpeg. I guess these things take time.

hi, sorry it took so long to get back to u.
I have converted ur pic from bitmap to jpeg ( from 1.48MBbitmap- to 61.1KB-jpeg) BIG diff huh ?? hehe http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
How did I do it??
Very Simple: opened the pic "as is" saved it to desktop AS a bitmap pic. Then opened it up in MS-Paint and 'saved as' (jpeg).. not too diff.
hope this helped u http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
