I've installed a SATA HD as the boot drive F:. Everything from the old C: drive was copied over to it. So far thats all I've done. I want to format the C: drive and use it for storage. Using XP home edition will it automatically find the new drive as the boot or is there something more I need to do before I format the old drive
Was the old drive a SATA drive?

Also did you just copy the files and folders across or did you formally clone/copy the partition with a partitioning utility such as provided by the manufacturers of most hard drives?

Yes, both drives are SATA, and I copyied from the old to the new using Data Lifeguard Tools software that came with the new W.D. hard drive. I selected to setup the new drive as the boot drive using the software, and then the software copied from old to new. I want to keep the old as additional storage.
Disconnect the old one...if the new one boots and everything is there, then you can reconnect the old one and format it.
