Core i7 VS Phenom 2!!

So im building a new rig and im really unsure about what to run in it. Ive read that the Core i7's are just absolutly amazing BUT a you can get a Phenom 3.4 X4 for cheaper than a Core i7 2.66!!! AND ive read that on a quality air cooler you can over clock a phenom by a whole Ghz!!!!

Then theres the issue of RAM. i7's uses triple channel and Phenom uses dual channel. IS theres really much of a performace gain? And would i be better off spending the extra money id save with an AMD build on an ATI 4870 x2 or even a GTX 295???

i7s are the best you can get right now. Triple channel will just future-proof your computer, but its not necessary.

Yes i know i7's are the top of the line thing BUT what im wondering is, is it worth spending almost double the price on a processor when all i do is gaming and everyone knows AMD processors work extremely well gaming
