hey guys,
i am working on a friends pc for him. it is a gateway astro pc. the one that is all one piece. (junk). he is having problems with his modem. when he tries to connect, it comes back with a fatal 630 error. modem not responding.i have been through all the software aspects, and their are no conflicts or sharing of com ports. so, he brought me a new modem to install, and when i removed the monitor to get to the board, i see were the modem jack is on the board, but it is not connected to a pci card. it is just hooked to the board. is this one of them e machine jobs to were you can not do anything with it. (mr. gates). i guess my question is, is were do i go from here to install a new modem. i hope i have explained this good enough to understand what i am saying. if not, just ask me anything you need to know and i will respond rather quickly. i will be checking back about every hour waiting to hear from you. thanks guys. keep up the good work. your the best. DALE

if it has an empty ISA or PCI slot on the board, you can install a new modem of that type BUT you have to disable the onboard feature (old modem) by changing the jumpers on the mobo and remove it all together. If you replace it with the same kind (onboard pin style) just replace it and update the drivers if the model has changed. Is this what you needed?
