My bro's laptop got wsga05.exe, help?

GreenAV keeps telling my brother's system that it wants to delete or block wsga05.exe (it is expired and only bugs him about it so that he can renew it), can anyone help me remove it? Supposedly it is supposed to be some sort of malware that steals passwords and stuff like that, so I am being careful not to log on eBay, Paypal, and stuff like that.


Please let me know what you can do for me.


PS - It also mentions something about win32.monster.fx before giving me the prompt about wsga05.exe.

First:

How to run a scan with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here (http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe) or Here (http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Anti-Malware_d5756.html)

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Note)
The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts.
Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process.

No more GreenAV prompts, so that is FANtastic (annoying program (that is already expired)).

How should I approach this (since I haven't dealt with anything that threatened to steal my passwords (according to GreenAV) or something identity-related? I am not getting any prompts from any of the expired or active anti-virus programs installed...so that leaves me a bit at ease, but not completely. I noticed my brother didn't install ZoneAlarm, so I will probably go ahead and do that (unless you have a better program in mind).

If you didn`t notice, that GreenAV is a rogue program and your brother was duped into installing and running it let alone robbed if he had to pay for it! See here (http://community.ca.com/blogs/securityadvisor/archive/2009/09/03/greenav-rogue-security-software-and-social-engineering-walk-together.aspx).

Along with ZoneAlarm you will need a trustworthy and true AV so I would suggest one of the free ones. I use AVG (http://free.avg.com/) but there are others. You can find them by looking at the sticky posts in the security forum here.

BTW before it brings up the notepad file of the HJT results it tells me something about denying write access to a Hosts file, could some part of this Green AV virus be hiding because this Hosts file is being blocked?

Well you could try to resolve your HJT problem. How about if you delete the log from the 15th. After running another scan is a new one made then? How about uninstalling and reinstalling it? Does that cure the date problem?

I think Classic is just waiting because it is still your turn.

Excuse me, but I think I might have been put on the back burner and am bumping this to see if I can get a response to my doubts about lingering spybots or anything that could potentially steal by important passwords/accounts (I hope there isn't anything wrong with that).

Everything is good; there absolutely nothing out of the ordinary, but I was hoping that if any bad malware/adware/spyware/etc was present that it would be detected by those two programs that I was told to use.

I've never had an attack from something that threatens to steal my info like that (because I wasn't the person using this laptop, it was my brother), so my own ignorance has me wondering if that was it.


Sorry if I am being annoying; I'm just worried that my brother will use his eBay account on this laptop and someone will hack into his Paypal and get to his bank account.

If they are not bad, by the very least they are useless so you may as well get rid of them right?
