Hello all - newbie to the board so here it goes.

I currently use Fuji DVD+RW's to burn my downloaded movies. To burn I use Nero 4 with Windows XP.

I wanted to get more blank DVD's but the store no longer had any +rw's so I had to go with Memorex DVD-RW's. According to the dude at the store they should work the same and my home theatre will support them.

Of all the 5 I bought, I am only able to record on 1. On the others, Nero pops up and says that the dvd is not empty - would I like to erase and continue - when I click yes it still pops up with the same issue. No matter what dvd of Memorex I try, it says the same.

Its almost like the computer or Nero or the DVD burner doesn't want to acknowlege this brand. All of my Fuji's DVD+RW's burn and work perfect!

Is there something I am missing here or what? PLEASE HELP!!

Sounds like a bad batch or that your burner doesn't support -RWs only +RWs.

I have personally given up using RW at all finding nowadays that DVD R disks were dirt cheap and much faster and reliable to burn-to. Heck they are only about 20c each if bought in any bulk (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=dvd+r&x=0&y=0).

What's the make/model of your DVD burner?

I REALLY LIKE using CD and DVD re-writables.
Means I don't need to keep throwing away disks. [Though I do use some recordables now and then]
[How is all that throw-away stuff to be disposed of?]

What's the burn speed range of those Memorex DVD-RW's?
I use 2x DVD-RW, & and 4x DVD+RW.
And 1-4x CD-RW.

Gave away 4-off 2x CD-RW's, because...
When I updated the firmware of my Pioneer DVD-RW drive...
The minimum burn speed increased from 2x to 4x...
So I could no longer use those 2-speed CD-RW's! :(

I wonder if Pburn that's natively included in [almost?] all FREE Puppy Linux's would make a better job and actually complete the necessary tasks?
Just checked, and it DOES burn video DVD's.

I hang them up on strings to keep the crows from pecking holes in silage wrap. If peeps like RW that's fine but I cant stand all the bother of formatting and erasing and so forth and I can burn a DVDR in what seems a flash (pun intended).

To be quite honest I use all optical media less and less, except for making bootable utilities, since it is so much easier to copy stuff to "rewritable" flash memory drives and so forth.
