System Standby

I have a Dell Dimension 2400 with Windows XP Home SP3 with current Windows Critical Updates. IE7, MalwareBytes,Avira Antivir,Spybot S&D.
Also Logitech Wheelmouse M-BD58.

Problem: "Occassionally" the screen saver doesn't come on even when my Power Settings are as follows:
Screensaver: (NONE)
Turn off Monitor: After 15 mins.
System Standby: After 20 mins.

This is a minor problem and is intermittent --- but keeps bugging me:
I have noticed that when the PC is idle and the System Standby doesn't work,the red lite on mouse is blinking like the PC is in use.
So, I turn the mouse on it's side, which corrects the problem --- ie: Monitor turns off after 15 mins, and PC goes into System Standby after 20 mins.

The system is clean (according to Antivir,MalwareBytes and Spybot) and runs well, other than above.

Do you think it's the mouse? If so, I can switch mice with my laptop and see what happens.

If the screensaver is set to NONE then it will only come on when you as a user are logged out of your user account at the Welcome Screen.

So, I turn the mouse on it's side, which corrects the problemIt sounds like the mouse is picking up small vibrations etc and thus telling the PC it is in use.

Do you think it's the mouse? If so, I can switch mice with my laptop and see what happens.I think you have answered your own question.

I hate standby and always turn it off or substitute the setting for hibernate.
