Hi Every1,

A few months I tried to partion my laptop so that I could put LINUX (Red Hat) on it but the partion got up to 87% and then failed so I lost everything but a computer expert that got really low level recovered it for me 3 hours later. He got down into the cylinder, head and sector side of things which I would be interested to know how he did but for which I don't have a clue about. Does anyone know why he would of been fiddling around with this??

I was using Partion Magic software and it screwed up...........has anyone had trouble with this software??

Could anyone give me some advice as to partioning it

Will FDISK do it??

Thanks

Beno

Fdisk should partition it, I'd be concerned about trying it with anything after having trouble before, but if it's really fixed, fdisk should work. If you still plan to try Linux you need to do some digging and make sure you know how to set it up, since Linux uses different file structures.

Hard Disk Partitioning and Formatting Procedure (http://www.pcguide.com/proc/setup/hdd-c.html) should help with general partitioning procedures.

Linux Online (http://www.linux.org/info/index.html) has a pretty good list of links to Linux info, and a couple of "How To" links too.

I had a similar problem while using Partition Magic too, HOWEVER... it was my own fault because you MUST defragment the harddrive you are partitioning first. I have used the program many times and it is a great program for partitioning WITHOUT losing the data on your drive....
