Hey all,

I'm buying a new computer and would like to see some educated advice.

What I've come down to...

Gateway FX6801-01 (http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0314374)

OR

Systemax X58 Performance Gamer PC (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4517071&CatId=0)

The only thing I'm debating is if the Intel® Core(tm) i7 Processor 950 in the Gateway is better than the extra 3 gigs of DDR3 memory in the Systemax.

Any ideas/advice?

The Gateway has a better processor, better video card for the same money. I bet you can get a better computer for the same money if you build it yourself... Are you comfortable with that?

I'd be comfortable with building a computer, however I priced it about 3 months ago (to build the same computer as the gateway) and it seemed to be even more expensive. Plus, I would have to pay shipping and handling for every part.

However, if you think it may be cheaper, then I'd love to hear why! You seem to know what you're talking about.

Total $1,370.

You don't need a GTX285... an OC'ed 275 will do. And you won't need a 3GHz i7... 2.8GHz is plenty of power. 8GB RAM is plentiful. You'll want a case too... it's going to be a bit more expensive than the Gateway, but it is a better system and without the nags of an OEM computer.

Oh, wow! You really know how to do your research!

Thanks a whole bunch. I may go ahead and build a comp. after all!

Thanks again,
