High Im still somewhat a newb when it comes to computers but i have sucsessfully built 3 computers as of 3 years ago to present.. but most of them are pretty outdated and didnt require much.. but all these new pieces like
XFX GeForce 9800 GT vid card and XFX nForce 750i SLI Motherboard & Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 Processor (old to most of you probly but im cheap) seem to require an already running system with drivers to operate (dont know just guessing) To the question in all this.. If i buy these pieces above w/ new case new windows new hardrive and i install all at same time from ground up will it just blank screen me. Do i need to attach each one into an already running cpu update drivers then ADD another piece update drivers ect? thanx for the help.

Also i fear building BRAND NEW GROUND UP with a MOBO that doesnt have an onboard video... witch is kinda part of the question

Graphics cards always output basic legacy graphics onto the monitor. Driver software is only required if you want to access advanced features of your adapter like high resolution graphics, 3D acceleration for games etc.

yeah you will. just make sure when you build that your motherboard supports your CPU alot of people r having issues for some reason with mother boards that dont support AM2 only AM3 socket chips or backwards. It pay off to read as much as your can and review everypiece you plan on buying. toms hardware is a great site to review products. Also unless your well off theres no point is building a rig with the top of the line stuff. It WILL be out dated in less than six months. and you will be left feeling shallow and pedantic. (Quote peter Griffin) nut yes your video card will show video usually a resolution such as 800x600. then you will install a fresh copy of windows or another OS and then when all is said an done just insert your drivers discs that come with the part and install the driver. Beware though they send alot of pointless software with parts these days so make sure you read what your installing.

as above + after you install the operating system, make sure you install your mainboard drivers before you install the display drivers

the issue regarding am2 mainboards and am3 cpu can be fixed by flashing the mainboard with an updated bios, though you generally need a cpu the board can detect, with its default bios, to do that... some computer stores will flash the board with an updated bios for you ...

note: some am2 boards do not have an updated bios available so check the manufacturers website for cpu compatibility first
