win xp wont work

I have windows xp and it stopped working it says there is an error and the computer has to be restarted. I tried to repair the windows from the xp CD but it said error the repair did not work. I have all my files on the hard drive and games and i don't want to go through the trouble of reinstalling everything so how do i repair the original xp?

You can't. Your best bet is to take the drive from the pc and either:


Place in a different PC as a slave.
Place it in a USB enclosure and attach to a different PC.


Once either of those steps are accomplished, you can save your data to the other PC. Then:


Place the old drive back in the original PC.
Test the drive.
Zero-Fill the drive
Repartition and reformat the drive
Reinstall Windows
Transfer the data back from the second PC
