Time to tap into those brains again.... (mine hurts!)
Dialing up from home to the network (dial-up networking). Logged onto the network. Can access the sun system (via telnet) but 2 problems:
1. Mapped drives do not connect. Msg: 'Permanent connection not available. Do you want to restore this connection the next time you log on'
2. When opening Outlook 2000, msg 'Microsoft Exchange Server unavailable. You can retry connecting to the server using the network, or work offline'.
If I've dialed up and logged into the network, am I not trying to connect to exchange using the network?
Looking at the NT server, I can see RAS user logged on. What am I missing, searched the MS Knowledge base without joy (as often!). I'm using a laptop that has a NIC - everything works fine when this is connected - just dial-up. Probably a easy solution, (once you know!). Appreciate any advice..

http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Alright. Sussed. For anyone who may have a similar problem - RAS is configured on the NT server - ensure ports used for dial-up enable that they can use all network resources, not just the RAS server, if your wanting to browse the network. RAS client has dial-in permission. I selected the option to allow clients select their own IP addresses. On the DUN (Dial-up networking) - referred to as client RAS - allocate an IP address on either Network TCP/IP Dial-up adapter, or in the DUN settings and also enter WINS server IP address. Ensure WINS ip address is the same on the server TCP/IP properties as well as on the WINS server config! That 'slight' typo caused me plenty of grief. So obvious when you see. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif
