I had to take my computer in to get some repairs and when I got it back, I now get a prompt to enter a password for Microsoft Networking everytime I start, or restart the computer.

How can I disable this because it's really annoying.

I am running Win98SE

Thanks

Don't enter any password and click OK, that should clear it. If you still have a prompt showing up because a password is already entered use Find to look for a .pwl file, and delete it. That's the password database, and an empty pwl file will be created next time you reboot. Then don't enter a password and click OK. That tells windows not to use a password. Closing the window using the X at top right doesn't do the trick, you have to click OK, or it exits, making no changes.

Hello Pete,

Sorry it took so long to get back to you.

I tried your recommendation. I went to 'Find' and I typed .pwl in the 'named' box and the 'containing text' and I did the search in my C: drive, which is my only drive, and it couldn't find it.

I had entered a password when I first saw the prompt thinking it would stop the 'enter password' prompt from coming back...it didn't. I remember my password, if that helps.

Am I searching in the right place and doing the proper thing? This prompt is quite annoying because when I reboot, I have to be there to hit 'OK' to continue the process of getting to my desktop and allowing my icons, etc. to load.

Thanks!

Kayden

Enter *.pwl in the named box.
This will give you all the files with .pwl extension.

Then as Kenja said (in another post) ""Assuming you've got Win9x: Double click on "Network" in the Control Panel. On the "Configuration" tab, highlight "Client for Microsoft Networks". Click the "Properties" button. Under "Logon validation", clear the checkmark from the box in front of "Log on to Windows NT domain".
You want be in a Workgroup (where every computer is a peer), not in a Domain.""
