I have a DSL modem and wireless Belkin router. I have a Dell desktop wired connected and connecting to the internet fine, I have a wireless Compaq desktop connecting to the internet with no problems, I have other devices connecting to the wireless router with no problems. This machine that is having the problem is a Compaq desktop wired connection... it was connecting fine the very 1st time I connected the machine. I formatted the HD and reload Win XP and it stop connecting. I reloaded Internet Explorer 6.0. I am not sure what is the problem:confused: . The LAN cable shows connectivity lights when it connects to the back of the machine, I can take this same cable and plug it into the back of another machine and it connects fine to the internet. I really dont think it is a hardware problem....i think it is some setting I have not turned on, or some software I have not loaded, I just cant think of anything else to check, any help or suggestion would be helpful.

Sounds like the Ethernet drivers are not loaded for the network card. R-click the "My Computer" icon and click properties, hardware tab, device manager.
You will probably see a yellow exclamation mark under the network adapters section. If so, find your model number (eg; Pavillion xxxx) and put it in the search box here (http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html), following the prompts look for your Ethernet or network drivers and download them. Using a thumbdrive or other removable media to put them on the system and install them.
That should do it. If not post back and we will go from there.

Thanks for your response. I reload WinXP, and it is working now with no problems. Thanks again!

You reloaded the OS? You know that's the equivalent of swatting a fly with H-Bomb?

Lol. Well it was overkill for sure, but at least it did seem to work. :p :)
