Notebook batter!

My problem is that I haven't been able to fully charge one my laptop batteries. I just bought an extra battery pack for travelling. After I used up my old battery, I took it out and replace it with the now one. and now when I put my old battery back, it won't charge to 100%, it stops at 86%. What do you think the problem is? Please let me know!!! Once again, thank you much in advance!!!!!

Is it a lithium or NiMH? The former eventually just need to be replaced (should last a few years) and the latter have a memory effect whereby if they are recharged when they are not fully drained, they will only recharge to that point in the future...

Your best bet is to fully drain and then recharge the battery a few times...

Another thing to check is the battery controller firmware...I know Compaq has issued updates in the past to correct battery problems...
