formatting a syquest cartridge

As time progresses and I use the EZ135 cartridges of Syquest, it starts to have problems. I try and reformat these cartridges but they develop bad spots. I am using a SCSI drive. When the cartridge is being formatted it seems to ger stuck at a certain point and can hang for hours. I am using either the Syquest format or Windows 2000 Format. I need a more powerful formatting program that will mark a bad spot and keep continuing on so I can save these cartridges. I have about eight carts that need help.
