Me again Guys! Okay, I've done a format using my Windows98 (SE) boot disk. Now, I need to know how to get my system to recognize the rest of my hardware! I knew something wasn't right when I was going through the Windows installation. There were no graphics during setup, only text messages. I have no sound and when I installed my ISP software it didn't detect my modem! It was originally an LTWin modem in com port 3, I am only showing 2 com ports now and the LTWin is not in the list of manually selected modems???? How do I get my system to work together after a format?

P.S. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/redface.gif It was suggested to me by an email pal that deals alot with Western Digital that I should delete the Primary DOS Partition and\or Extended DOS Partition. The only thing is that those options did not appear like that! "Fdisk" my options came up, 1. Delete Primary DOS Partition 2. Delete extended DOS partition 3. Delete Primary DOS Partition in Extended...etc....
I was supposed to delete it, restart, "Fdisk" at A:> and then choose the Create option for same. This did not work like I was told it would! I believe that the wrong option was chosen, as in I think that my husband deleted the Primary DOS partition! Anyway, Creating was not possible! It gave me messages like, Primary DOS Partition already exist. Or cannot creat Primary DOS Partition without Extended Partition???? I am praying that we didn't delete anything incorrectly. Is there anything that I can do to be sure that all is well in this department? I know there was an option that allows you to display partitions. Should I check here to be sure that things are as they should be? Tell me something good!!! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

Hard Disk Partitioning and Formatting Procedure (http://www.pcguide.com/proc/setup/hdd.htm) should answer your questions about the fdisk problem. Check my site, and you'll find instructions on installing windows there and at Trish's Escape from Hardware Hell. A coup[le of the other sites have instructions as well.
To get the LT winmodem to work you'll have to install it from the software, Windows won't detect and install it like most other cards. Sometimes you also have to physically remove the modem before installing the software, for some strange reason...
Check Windrivers (http://www.windrivers.com) for drivers if you don't have a disk with the modem, and they might also have instructions. If not, unzip the file to a folder on the hard drive, and look for either setup.exe or install.exe and run that. Also look for a readme file, it might contain instructions.

Thanks Pete! Can you tell me how to get specifics on the types of drivers that I have? I know that my Video card is a Nvidia but I have no idea about the sound card. I think that if I can get the drivers and get my partitioning straight I will have a working computer! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Thanks for the site info! I can use all the instruction I can get! Learning as I go!!
Thanks again,
Tara

If the sound is onboard sound then you need to searc the mptherboard manufacturers site for the drivers. If it is a card then look at the chips one of them should have something like ESS,Ensoniq, Yamaha. Some also have other identifying info an them. Post back with what you find and I'll try help you find it.
Pete,
If the software for a winmodem is installed before it is installed then Windows usually detects it (ya know, Plug an' pray......or play an' play an' play.......)
