Hi.
I've just got a problem with OE 5.50. It doesn't open when I try to open it on Read Mail on Toolbar of the IE. I went into Programs tab in Internet Option and didn't see Outlook Express in Email box as usual. OE still works well when I open it on its icon on the desktop. This happened just after I had cleaned virus. A my friend said that some OE's associate files were damaged by virus and recommended reinstalling IE 5.50. I wonder if there's a easier way without reinstalling all components of IE? Can you help me. Thank you.

Generally if you reinstall a program over an exsiting structure your settings, etc. will remain as they are. You will keep your list of favorites and everything - though I would export the favorites list to a file in another folder just to be sure. Exporting from IE 5.5 is really easy: just click on file/import export and choose to export favorites - then follow the instructions in the export wizard.
BTW - I, and many others I know, have noticed many problems with OE - and tend to use Outlook instead.

IE has a repair option. It is in the Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel, select Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 and then select Repair. Also look in IE tools Internet Options and see which program is listed as default for Email under programs and see if you can change it there.

Thank you for your help mjc and Technochic,
I'd repaired it as you said but the problem didn't go away. I also looked in IE tools Internet Option and didn't see anything that was listed there. Eventually I'd decided to reinstall IE with panic in my mind of risk but I didn't get any problem. Now I can open OE by its icon on IE's toolbar as usual.
