Can some of you please advise me whether to buy the Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional or Ultimate operating systems for my new computer
? Price is no object.

Are the differences between them significant?

What are their advantages and limitations?

Charts to help you decide.
The first thing is to decide if your hardware will run 64-bit or 32.

Thanks a million. Very useful indeed. I've taken a quick look at the links and I think this could be quite an interesting path to follow. Once again thankyou very much.

It depends on what you need and what you expect from the operatins system, as indeed the difference may be significant in some cases

I am running 64 bit win 7 and actually playing max payne 2 about 2/3 way through and chaos theory right now. They are running perfect. Win 7 is a great upgrade.

ordered my copy of Win7 professional yesterday :P
Basic is fine for most stuff but i thought having XP mode would be worthwhile. Plus it cost me the same as basic would have , the only difference being that i'll have to do a clean install, which i was going to do anyway.

The first thing is to decide if your hardware will run 64-bit or 32.Egads! Anyone running a system old enough to be 32-bit only should not be paying for a new OS, IMO! Plenty of free options there.

64-bit operating systems just run better in my experience, even if you still run 32-bit programs on them. The only 32-bit operating systems that I still run are virtual machines and live CD's. No reason to be running W7 32-bit. (Waste of money, if you ask me, although each retail license key is good for either 32-bit or 64-bit.) The new versions of Windows were meant to be enjoyed in 64-bit goodness.
