Maybe I'm in the minority here, but, OC'ing from 233 to 266 isn't worth it. You probably won't notice any difference in speed. Unless you just want to do it to say you did, which is ok too.

Nope, I don't think you'd notice a difference. I just went from a 200MMX to a 233MMX and no noticeable difference, until I upgraded from 32MB to 64MB RAM. If you went to about 300 you might notice a difference, but I don't think the 233 would handle that fast, about 266 would be max for it. That's probably why it won't boot, either the CPU won't handle it or the memory won't handle it if you tried to overclock by increasing the bus speed. Could also be the video card.

When you try to overclock the CPU is not the only component affected, memory, video and other cards as well are forced to run at speeds higher than they are designed for, and figuring out which one won't handle it might not be easy.

The PC Guide article Overclocking, the Dissenting Opinion (http://www.pcguide.com/opt/oc/index.htm) explains it better than I can.

If you want that 233 to run faster, add more memory and a faster harddrive. Another 33MHz CPU speed won't do anything for real-life performance.
