Are there neighbors with WiFi close to your location? I would suspect interference if that is the case, so you would want to change channels for yours.

The place I'm renting offers wifi with the rent.
I see several other wifi networks, but all at 1 bar and about 1/2 of them drop in/out of detection. The next closest neighbors are about 300 feet, but I'm not sure who's wireless network is who's...
It was odd because I had a list of about 10 and it would drop to about 4, inlcuding my host would drop off completely, then come back at 3 bars along with several others at the same time.
The channel would have to be changed at the host, right? I don't have access to the router and I was thinking the host was messing with it. The other thing is they are using a wireless robuku streaming movie thing, so I was thinking that might cause problems using the Internet.

The router could just need to be power-cycled. Settings could also be jacked up. You might have to talk to your landlord/main office about checking the settings.
Otherwise, it's very possible its the WiFi card in your PC. If its a laptop, I would take it somewhere (Panera, etc) to make sure it works correctly with other WiFi points.
