sotfware windows me won't boot

my problem is that i cannot load or boot up my computer.
i have been using windows me for severa; months, then either i got a virus or another program infected the boot process of my h/drive, so that i can no longer boot system
i have a homebuilt:
amd900 socket a thunderbird 200mhz fsb
abit kt7 raid mb, only using one hd
786 mgs of ram pc133 micron
45 gig ibm 7200 rpm h/drive dtla307045
etc
one nighjt i was running my virus checker and computer froze
cannot run safe mode anymore no matter what i do it turns itself off


question: how to you start all all with a h/drive? is it anything like recoding on a blank tape again?
i have tried to boot up again from start up disk to load winds me again but only shuts down again

What, if any, are the error messages that are displayed?

How far into the boot process does it get before it shuts down?

Do you have access to a Win98 startup disk? an antivirus emergency disk?
