Hi,
I need some help could you tell me how to get a win95 boot disk to recognise the cd rom drive. I know the win 98 boot disk allows this but can I alter some of the files so I can do this with the win 95boot disk
Thanx

I'm not totally sure I understand what you are saying; however, I use a Win98 boot disk all the time to get cd support for the install of Win95 and it works fine. If you want to add files or whatever to the boot disk you can do that too (ie there is enough room on a floppy disk).
The "other" way to do it is to install the file mscdex.exe(obtained from another computer) into the root directory (ie...C ) and then using a program on a floppy provided by most CD rom mfg's to set up the cd rom in a dos environment (I use Mitsumi drivers for a cd rom cause they always work)you load it and then just put a boot disk in and change to the D drive and you are in business. You dont have to load Win98 just as a result of using a win98 boot disk....all it does is get you the cd rom support you need to install whatever you want to on the system.

BOot Disk (http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdir.htm) has instructions. They also have several downloads available.

You have to add mscdex.exe to your boot disk, and create autoexec.bat and config.sys files. Instructions on doing this are at the link above. The Main Page (http://www.bootdisk.com) has several different links, some good utilities and some other useful info.

I'm also curious. Is this perhaps the same philo that hangs out at the Obsolete Computer Museum Helpline (http://www.obsoletecomputermuseum.org/cgi-bin/helpline.pl)?

Thought I'd also drop that link in here for some of the folks who are into the older computers. It's been a favorite haunt of mine for a long time, but with all the time I spend here I don't go browse through the entire thing often any more...
