I have an HP ScanJet 4200Cse scanner which I installed when using
Windows 98. I have since installed the Windows ME upgrade offered
to Windows 98 users. I now need to update my scanner software and was wondering the best way to do this. I have been told that I should not only remove it using the uninstall option but also through the add/remove
programs, the PC Safe Mode, Device Managers, deleting all .*Tmp files/folders and to disable all Terminate-and-Stay-Resident(TSR)programs.
Applying the last two (.tmp amd tsr) only if when I reboot my system resources are less than 90%. Is all of this really necessary? In the past I have always used the uninstall method from the menu (if provided) or through the add/remove programs. Is all of this really necessary? Any help would be appreciated. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/confused.gif

I've seen mention of doing the extra removal when problems occur. ME is a whole diff monster than 98...
hopefully the install of the upgrade cleans (or re-oganizes) the registry...but if not, seeing as how the device drivers for Me are diff than 98...you may have to whack some registry entries as well..careful though, not for the faint of heart.
