View Full Version : I have problems opening a jpeg file??
Hey there,
I am trying to open some .jpeg imaes and although I can open some on some of my drives, on a certain other drive I can't.
The error message that always comes up is : >>>>
"The compression format in the specified file name is invalid or not supported."
I have tried to change the file associations around with it but this still does not seem to work.
Does anyway have any idea of how I could fix this problem??
Thanks

If all the files have the .jpg extension, and you can open some of them but not others, then the files were probably "scrambled" in downloading or corrupted in some other way. It wouldn't make any difference which drive the files are on.

Or...
Try with an other viewing program. Paint Shop Pro supports jpeg-compression.(if I remember correctly)

I think TJ hit the nail on the head.......I occasionally download jpeg's which dont open......simply a result of a bad download http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

try using ACDSee picture viewer, its really the best out there. It supports
most formats.

This may sound kinda Kooky. But... A photographer/graphic artist friend of mine sends me files of his artphotography on occasion. But quite often, I'm unable to open them. Firstly, he does everything on his Mac. I think that's where the problem starts. Of course, he thinks the problem is the fact that I own a PC. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif Anyway... If I just double click on the file I've received, it opens up 'encoded'. However, if I go to the Kodak image program or 'paint' on my machine, it allows me to open the files in whatever format I choose. Once I get there things seem to work out just fine. I usually open them as bmp first and then save another in jpg format.
I don't know if this will help or hinder. But, I too have gotten the old 'this format not supported' error message.
Respectfully, Cory

Before trashing the file, try using something other than ACDSee. I like that program too, but I have noted that when scanning pictures, it sometimes doesn't want to open .jpg's that worked fine with other .jpg viewers.
Oops, nevermind. I just noticed that the ACDSee was a response http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/tongue.gif Well, if you haven't tried it yet, go for it. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
