View Full Version : What is "Error reading fix Disk"?

I am trying to boot up with a windows 98 disk and when I type
FDISK I get a "No fixed disks present" or
"Error reading fixed disk" Please help

Pete check the cable connected to the HDD. The red line on one side of cable is where pin 1 is located with most drives pin 1 is the closest to the power plug on the drive. Make sure the cable attached to the MOBO is also connected correctly red line side is pin 1.
Before you try the above check in BIOS see if it is set to AUTO select the hard drive. If you need help doing this post back more info on your system so that we can help you.

Is this a new Hard Drive or one that is starting to give you problems?

I loaded up windows 95 and 98. When the coputer restarts I get this
"DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER"
Why don't it start with windows?
PLEASE HELP!!!!

Pete tell us what you have in this computer that you are having this problem.
If I understand you correctly, it is early in the morning, you have installed Windows 95 and 98. Did you upgrade 95 to 98? Or do you have both
OS on you machine.
Check your bios it should be set to boot from the "C" drive that you installed the Windows 95 and 98 to.
