If it has different pins then it is not the correct CPU for your system and will not work.

What is your motherboard make/model and what make/model is the new CPU?

If you forced it to fit in the motherboard you most likely bent some pins and it is toast.

Try reseating the CPU again. Those old socket 7 CPU's are easy to not get in all the way where the pins are actually making contact correctly. Sometimes they fall right in and other times you have to gently push them in.

Make sure all pins are clean and that RAM is fully seated.

Make sure the CPU is oriented correctly, there are some pins missing from a corner to "key" the CPU. When inserting the CPU, make sure the CPU lock is up, and that it locks fully down after fully seating the CPU.

If It is an ACPI computer, did you make sure it was unplugged? I made the simple mistake of not unplugging when I was switching CPUs one time and ruined my computer.

reinstall the battery after 10 minutes with the PC unpluged
