I was in the adding new hardware part of my pc, when by chance I saw the following-
Primary ide controller dual fifo
standard hd disk drive
Devise status-this device is either not present, not working properly or does not have all the drivers installed (code 10)
Try upgrading the device drivers. Now I installed a second hd about 3 wks ago it came new with no software, its a quantum fireball 20gb and seems ok but I do keep getting illegal ops.Tried microsoft it said I had the best available driver but I dont think so or I would'nt get the warning. Please help or ease my mind. Thanks for the other help,,get back to you all on partitioning in dos later, I havent a clue about dos, black screens scare me more than the mother in law.

Try this for a little help with the error code 10 http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q125/1/74.ASP
also check your bios to see that the hard drive is recognized correctly.
And try this for a walk-through on using fdisk http://www.newlogic.co.uk/kbase/fdisk/page3.htm
hope these help http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
