sndvol32.exe problem - volume keeps vaishing.

Hi all. :)

Problem is that the wee speaker icon down in the system tray for the volume control keeps vaishing. sndvol32.exe exits in c:\windows\system32 and there is a tick in the checkbox for Place volume control in the taskbar, but it keeps vaishing.

If I untick the checkbox, click [APPLY], then retick the checkbox and click [APPLY] again, then the icon reappears in the system tray until you reboot.

If you reboot, the volume icon vanishes again from the system tray, even though the sndvol32.exe file still exists, and the tick is still there in the checkbox.

Weird huh?!

Any ideas as to why this is happening?

Try this>>>

Go to Add/Remove windows system components and unchecked the UPNP box.
After a restart the Volume Icon is now in the systems tray.

Still have this problem, and can't seem to fix it. For the time being, I have put a copy of sndvol32.exe in the startup folder, so that volume control loads during boot, but I still have the problem that it does not appear in the taskbar.

i'm havin the same problem...damn. no solution, my search continues...i will def. post a solution when/if i find one cuz i know how annoying this is.

I have not yet found a solution to this, other then to put a shortcut to the volume-control application on the desktop, and have the client double-click it to change the volume. They elected to just leave it minimized in the taskbar, which achieves the same thing, but bloody weird that one, and no - still not cured!!! Good luck with your searches! :)

well Mini-Me, i at least solved my problem. hopefully this will help you too. i noticed that i had an error with a java plugin for firefox. And in my search for a solution, i came across someone else with the same volume icon disappearing problem that also mentioned that their problem occurred immediately after a java update. I'm not sure why/how these two things are related, but after uninstalling and reinstalling Java my problem is gone and i have my trusty volume icon back to where it belongs. i hope this helps.
